The Green School
campus, named
Kul-Kul after the
wooden bells the
Balinese use to
communicate within
the villages, is
strategically
located at Sibang
Kaja, in the centre
of South Bali. This
allows those living
in Ubud, Seminyak,
Canggu and Sanur to
have easy access to
the school.
The eight-hectare campus is divided by the Ayung River,
whose western bank supports Heart of School, classrooms, the Mapantigan
auditorum, sports field and a gymnasium while the eastern bank serves as the
setting for the School's boarding accommodation, staff homes, and guest
villas. The school's entrepreneurial enterprises and cultural centres will
also be sited here. Aquaculture ponds, organic vegetable gardens, and
permacultural gardens are found throughout the vast campus of shaded
walkways, and cool breezes that lift themselves off the rushing River. A
beautiful bamboo bridge allows easy access across the river and provides
stunning views of the Ayung valley.
Built entirely out of low-impact and
environmentally-conscious materials such as bamboo and traditional Balinese
mud walls, the buildings flow throughout the gardened landscape and suggest
a complete harmony with nature. A large sports fields, a gymnasium, a high
ropes course, and an innovative renewable electrical power that is under
construction suggest that the school is not only for students, but for a
community of open-minded and thoughtful families who wish to subscribe to an
educational worldview that embraces holism and the development of the whole
person.
